Update from Pooja at Royal Beach Camp

Q & A with Pooja

As you know, IYH is working with Ram from Royal Beach Camp in Nepal. The camp is based next to the Trisuli River and runs training camps for western trainee adventure guides alongside Nepalese trainee adventure guides.

Nepal is trying hard to embrace women into the outdoor industry. However, culture, tradition and poverty can block opportunities which limit the choice of women who would love to work in the industry.

IYH is currently sponsoring Pooja on a two year training program. She started in November and this is our second Q&A to see how she is doing.

1) How is the training going for you?

Well, training is going easy and wonderful. In the past few days of starting I was quite nervous but the trainers and colleagues are nice and helping with friendly nature. I got an experience of learning plenty of house keeping skills, kayaking of rafting skills as well as I learned yanker of canyoning. I absorbed handful of knowledge about life skills. I'm thankful to the training institute and teacher for this opportunity. Thank you!

2)What are your dreams for the future ?

I'm a girl who belongs to a small village of Dhading district. Since the past I was curious and ambitious about my future. I always tasted myself in different sector to explore my actual passion. Now at this point I found my passion on Guiding, specially Tourist Guiding. Guiding is not only profession for me, it is my way of living. I like roaming around the places which carries many historical , cultural and natural facts. Similarly I am a good learner. Altogether I know three types of language. Those are Nepali, Hindi and English. I am a fluent speaker and also a interesting character who can hold the attention on myself. I see myself a good and trustworthy Tourist Guide in future. Thank you.
